Series 820 SB varistors for high performance are used mainly in electromechanical engineering as protection against overvoltages in field windings of DC machines, chokes and hoisting magnets.
There are no fixed types for this dimension. The varistors are adapted to suit each particular case.
The characteristic curves are thus to be taken as standard values, whereby all intermediate values can be supplied. New curves are obtained by interpolation between neighbouring curves.
We are happy to execute calculations and layouts according to customer's specifications.
Please either complete the Enquiry Form provided or contact our Application Laboratory for assistance.
One individual type of Series 820 SB is defined by current specification at a particular voltage.
Measurements are normally carried out with DC voltage but measurements with AC voltage are also possible, according to the application.
Several mounting options available as illustrated below:
Single Disc
Packed Mounted Column

Separate Mounted Column

VDR OCELIT varistors are mounted on steel bolts, 10 mm diameter with ceramic insulation. Varistor columns may consist of 2 to 13 varistor discs.
Examples of designation when ordering such columns:
Column, 4 discs 820 SB, series connection, single disc: 100 V = 50 ... 100 mA
Column, 12 discs, 820 SB, parallel connection, single disc: 220 V ~ 10 ... 20 mA
Max. Power Dissipation at Δt = 80 °K | P = 19W | Mean Impact Strength of One Disc ca. 1.9 kJ
